Heritage weekend proved a profitable one for the stable with three winners and — runners finishing in the money.
Procal Harum showed at Greyville on Friday night that he is a horse with a future as he scored comfortably for Dave MacLean. The son of Querari had his race won a long way out and Keagan de Melo eased him up before the line.
It was Keagan’s 24th birthday on Sunday and while the early exchanges did not go quite according to plan, he made no mistake on Fiorella. The daughter of Captain Al quickened up smart over the last furlong and won well. Given her pedigree she should get a lot further than Sunday’s 1400m and all things going well the features during Champions Season are a possibility.
Third winner of the weekend came in thrilling fashion as Lunar Rush got her nose in front on the line from the smart Isingamoya and stable companion Neptune’s Rain in a three-way photo. This was the fourth win for the home-bred daughter of Windrush, taking her earnings to over R800k.
Of the 19 runners Duncan saddled on Sunday, eight finished in the money and there were a couple for the notebook.
