Legend has been a soldier for his owners and the stable and their patience has paid off.
After winning the Bloodstock SA Million at Scottsville as an early three-year-old, he was side-lined for nearly five months before his next start and then a further nine months as Duncan took his time with the gelding knowing his ability.
He has since come back in good form and came from a long way back to win the GPS Plastics Stakes over 1400m at Greyville on Sunday.
It was a distance short of his best but the pace was never on and apprentice Diego de Gouveia was patient towards the rear of the field. Turning for home, he aimed Legend up the middle as the field parted like the Red Sea and the gelding quickened up smartly to win going away giving De Gouveia the 60th winner of his career and in the process losing his claim.
Duncan was of the opinion that Legend was still short of peak fitness so this was an excellent performance and gives hope for Champions Season.
