Things seldom go according to plan in racing and after a slow start to Sundays meeting at Scottsville, where expectations were high, it all came together in two of the last three races with Hey Boy winning the Mi7 Security Group Handicap for apprentices and Special Blend rounding off the afternoon, although not what most punters were expecting as he started at juicey odds of 55-1.
Hey Boy is not the easiest but he is quick and apprentice Denis Schwatz, who has matured into one of the best on the Highveld, rode the perfect race on the half-brother to champion filly Via Africa.
Hey Boy is often difficult at the gate, but once in, he showed pace throughout and when he decided to shift to the inside under pressure, Schwartz had him well clear and he won as he liked.
Good luck to owner/breeder Andre Hauptfleisch and Pro N. Revaprasadu.
