Fiorella, Flichity By Farr and Rocket Countdown join the 46 remaining horses who stood their ground at Mondays first acceptance stage for the R4.25-million Race over 2200m at Greyville on Saturday 7 July.
Duncan Howells-trained Fiorella upstaged superstar Snowdance in the Grade 2 Daisy Fillies Guineas at Greyville recently and indicated she had a fair amount of talent before that when a 1.50-length fourth behind Takingthepeace in the Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic at Turffontein. The Howells stable is in top form and their Captain Al filly could make her final bid for a big-race invitation in the Grade 1 Woolavington next month.Flichity By Farr is a filly from the Alyson Wright stable earned respect when finishing a 1.20- length second to Secret Potion in the recent Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks over 2450m at Turffontein. She had shown little before that to suggest she could be a July candidate but her earlier wins over 1800m and 2000m indicated she would enjoy the ground and her Oaks performance confirmed that.
Candice Bass-Robinson-trained gelding Rocket Countdown first indicated he could be worth following when he beat Brett Crawford-trained White River in the Grade 2 Selangor Cup. White River has since finished second in the Cape Guineas and third in the Byerley Turk and is currently in the top 18 on the first Durban July Log.
Rocket Countdowns latest quest for consideration came when second from the widest draw to Rainbow Ridge in the Cape Winter Guineas, confirming he could be worth considering for a July ticket. Gold Circle
