Anton Marcus rode two superb races for the stable at Scottsville, booting home a double, but in both cases was made to work for his riding fee.
Love Theme looked to be an early Christmas gift for punters after the tribulations of her previous start but as it turned out, victory was not quite as straight forward as many would have predicted.
Up with the pace throughout, she took the scenic route with Marcus testing both sides of the track before winning rather comfortably. It was a win full of merit and when the penny eventually drops, Love Theme could develop into something useful.
She is a difficult filly at home and it seems that only head lad Kospendule knows what goes on in her head. She has all the physical attributes, said Duncan but is still mentally immature.
Tinus Gericke and Bruce le Roux are spending wisely and Love Theme will be a valuable addition to any broodmare band when she retires from the track.
It was a hard-fought victory for Gingerbread Man. In a small field, Marcus made sure he stayed connected to light-weight pacemaker Bling Swing with favourite Draugluin at his quarters.
Anton made an early move at the top of the straight but the opposition was far from done. Draugluin challenged but couldnt get past and Bling Swing and Warfarer refused to go away.
Gingerbread Man, looked a spent force with a furlong to run but it was only Anton giving him a short breather in the eye of the storm. When it was needed, Anton suddenly picked Gingerbread Man up again they crossed the line going away with ears pricked. It was a top ride from a top jockey and good luck to Dave MacLean.
