Elusivenchantment turned in a tremendous performance at Scottsville on Wednesday and earned another crack at the Gr1 City of Pietermaritzburg Sprint (formerly the SA Fillies Sprint) come Champions Season. Shouldering top weight and coming off a lengthy break, the daughter of Elusive Fort out of Bump ‘N Grind, a half-sister to the star Via Africa, showed pace throughout and then kept finding under Keagan de Melo to comfortably hold the consistently game Varlicious.
It was obvious that the filly was in need of the run but her class carried her through. In last season’s City of Pietermarizburg Sprint, Elusivenchantment was run out of it in the final 50m and a year older and stronger she should be a contender come May. Good luck to Albert Boshoff and Andre Hauptfleisch.
